While making a quick pass through Penn Station at lunch, I spotted this sweet tattoo on a guy waiting for his train:

Steph is a student out on Long Island who designs and draws up his tattoos and then has them inked.
The piece featured above was the first one that I spotted on him (he has eight in all), and he was willing to share it here.
Perched on his left bicep, It depicts a tropical setting, with bamboo and a panther, the main element in the tattoo.
This particular design was inked about two years ago by Chris at Tattooing by Richie in Elmont, Long Island.
Previous work from the shop has appeared here.
Thanks to Steph for sharing his self-designed body art with us here on Tattoosday!

Who’s the queen of hearts? Ask different people and you’ll get some amazing answers. Some might say the name of their beloved; others might talk about their favorite actress. But guys, cards have the true queen of hearts, right? Take a look at the cool queen hearts tattoo pictured here and you’ll get the answer of the one who loves playing cards.

Jon from LAMuscle.tv just sent me their Pomona Body Art Expo video, making tattoo blogging easy for me today as I end my Mexican vacation and head back to NYC. Love them muscle men!
Granted, I did have to do a screen-grab instead of embed but if you click this link it will take you to scenes from the Pomona show, one of the largest conventions in the US, where you can see legends like Rick Walters workin his Americana magic.
[Check our own awesome Walters video to get schooled on the old school.]
And if that doesn’t do it for ya, of course, there’s a bunch of young tattooed women shaking their butts for the camera. Somethin for everyone!
Ok, gotta get on a plane soon but I’m back Monday with more tattoo goodness. Have a wonderful weekend!

Tattoos do fascinate all of us but sexy girl wearing a tattoo on her sexy bod can make anyone go crazy, ain’t it? Done by Chad at grafic tattoos, it’s a cool Chinese character and a gun tattoo, which I’m sure wouldn’t have been so appealing if worn by someone else, right? And you gotta agree with me that this is the sexiest gun tat ever!

The child star probably is most well known for her role as Wednesday in the Addam’s Family movies has several tattoos of her own. Christina’s tattoos range from text tattoos, to traditional tattoos, to girly tattoos and so on.

I never thought someday owls would make me smile. Sneak a peak at the tattoo pictured above. Imagine, someone got an owl inked on his half bald head. Don’t tell me this guy got his half head shaved to get this tat inked. Quite possible! Tattoo fanatics you know can go to extremes. Owls never catch any one’s attention but owl tattoos and freaky ones is sure to fascinate you all.

If you don’t know who Sailor Jerry is– you don’t know tattoos.
Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins (1911-1973) is considered the foremost American tattoo artist of his time, and defined the craft in two eras– BSJ and ASJ (before and after Sailor Jerry). He did more for the ancient art of tattoo than any other single person.
At age 19, Sailor Jerry enlisted in the US Navy. It was during his travels at sea that he was exposed to the art and imagery of Southeast Asia. Artistically, his influence stems from his union of the roguish attitude of the American sailor with the mysticism and technical prowess of the Far East. He maintained a close correspondence with Japanese tattoo masters during his career.
He regarded tattoos as the ultimate rebellion against “the Squares”.
Sailor Jerry’s last studio was in Honolulu’s Chinatown, then the only place on the island where tattoo studios were located. His work was so widely copied, he had to print “The Original Sailor Jerry” on his business cards.
He remained a sailor his entire life. Even during his career as tattoo artist, he worked as licensed skipper of a large three-masted schooner, on which he conducted tours of the Hawaiian islands. Sailing and tattooing were only two of his professional endeavors.
Sailor Jerry went out of his way to mentor those tattoo artists whose talents and attitude he respected, among them tattoo legends Don Ed Hardy and Mike Malone, to whom he entrusted his legacy of flash designs. He also railed against flashy tattoo artists such as Lyle Tuttle, and what he called “hippie tattoo” culture.
From his 20s to his late 50s, he stopped tattooing entirely as a part of a disagreement with the IRS. He only tattooed for approximately 12 years.

In 1999, Hardy and Malone partnered with an independent Philadelphia clothing company to establish Sailor Jerry Ltd., which produces clothing and other crap. Some say that Ed Hardy sold his old mentor, Sailor Jerry, up the river– taking all the fame and pocketing the dough. I would agree.

So, yesterday, I’m sitting poolside with a fruity cocktail in my all-inclusive Cancun resort for aging frat boys, trying to look mean and unapproachable, when the staff wheel out our afternoon refried beans and plantains (pretty dangerous as the drunk guys surrounding me were lookin gassy already).
Hungry and armed with Beano, I made the arduous 10-foot trek to the food, and upon arrival, was greeted by the buffet dude with a jaunty “Hello Miss Tattoo” — to which I smiled and gave an Hola right back. He then continued…
“I like tattooed women. Veeerrry sexy.”
“Um, are those quesadillas?”
“You have lots of tattoos. Arms, back, belly. Djou have one on your ass?”
“Wow, tacos, my favorite!”
Alas, my focus on food and ignoring the question freed me from further inquiry and leering at that moment, but I did have to be saved from him later on by other hotel homies who were tattooed and super cool.
In fact, saw a lot of excellent tattoo work on the staff — sadly those on the guests horrified my snob sensibilities — and found that most of it came out of Mexico City and Guadalajara, not the tattoo tourist traps of Mayan Riviera Row.
It reminded me of the most excellent Mexican tattoo publication, TatuARTE en la Piel, created by the kickass Karem Martinez and Danny Yerna, also owners of Wakatanka Body Arts.
The latest issue is pure sexy time with reports from fetish fest Trauma, but also hot work from tattooists Sanya and Missouri’s Jason Fancher (of whom I’m a huge fan). There’s also a special feature on tribal tattoos after my own black(work) heart.
Picking up a copy has been the better way to practice my Spanish here, although I’m only really getting good at saying “Less ice, more Tequila please.” You can order your own copy online. Check it.
Ok, gonna log off and get back to slathering SPF 500. Hasta mañana!

Yesterday in my Mexican sun and Margarita haze, I made a booboo in the Tattoo News Review. I wrote that Sylvester Stallone’s hot tattooed bod was adorned with a mix of real and faux tattoos for his new movie “The Expendable.”
But, in fact, the photo I linked to showed all new real custom tattoos in addition to the Mike Devries portrait of Sly’s wife that I linked.
My buddy Miguel set me straight today:
“The tattoos on Stallone are real at least in that picture. The right side is done by Marco Cerretelli, the left is done by Kore Flatmo and it goes around the shoulder also. Just a little bit of trivia for a sister. “
There ya go. Now let’s all go out and do some crunches.
